Mason Greenwood has voluntarily decided to leave Manchester United after a six-month probe into his behavior.
After the football player’s criminal charges were dropped in February, United opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Greenwood’s arrest on rape and assault suspicions.
After pictures and an audio recording were shared online, Greenwood was detained in January 2022.

In a statement released on Monday, United said that they had “concluded that the material posted online did not provide a full picture and that Mason did not commit the offences in respect to which he was originally charged,” but they also revealed that the 21-year-old would be departing Old Trafford.
Despite the fact that Greenwood’s contract, which is still in effect until 2025, has not been terminated, sources have told ESPN that Mason Greenwood is not likely to play for the team again. United will take into account both loan proposals and a long-term relocation, according to sources.
In a statement, United said: “All parties involved, including Mason, are aware of the challenges associated with him starting again at Manchester United.
It has been decided that it would be best for him to do so outside of Old Trafford, and we will now cooperate with Mason to make that happen.
Greenwood maintained Mason Greenwood “did not do the things I was accused of” in a separate statement, but acknowledged that the choice to quit United was “best for us all.” Greenwood has been barred from workouts and games since his initial arrest.

While the club works to find him a new club, sources tell ESPN that Mason Greenwood will continue to receive his full salary. However, he will not be permitted to train at Carrington, not even for a separate program away from Erik ten Hag’s first-team group.
Mason Greenwood said: “I fully recognize that I made mistakes in our relationship and that I bear some of the blame for the events that led to the social media post.
The club’s inquiry, according to Arnold, had “provided with alternative explanations for the audio recording, which was a brief excerpt from a much longer recording, and for the images posted online,” and the woman’s family had taken part in the process.
Mason “has accepted that he has made mistakes that he takes responsibility for,” Arnold said. “While I am satisfied that Mason did not commit the acts he was charged with.”
I’m also aware of the difficulties Mason will encounter as he attempts to revive his career while supporting a child with his partner under the harsh spotlight of Manchester United. In addition, this situation has sparked strong opinions, and it is my obligation to minimize any disruption to the club’s efforts to unite.
“Although Mason will try to resurrect his career other than at Manchester United, we have decided, this does not mean the situation is over. In order to assist Mason and the claimed victim in starting over and making a positive change in their life, the club will continue to offer its assistance.
A group of senior executives conducted United’s investigation, which was launched after criminal charges were dropped, and Arnold was given their testimony.

According to sources who spoke with ESPN, the club doesn’t think Greenwood physically assaulted the woman based on the findings and doesn’t think he used coercive tactics based on their interactions with the lady’s mother.
The woman was offered the chance to correct any findings, but reports claim that she did not interact directly with the club.
In April 2022, the woman reportedly withdrew her accusations and support for the police probe, according to sources who spoke to ESPN.
