Sexuality During Menopause

Menopause is a phase in every woman’s life that is unavoidable. For many it is a phase like any other. For this group that takes it positively with a smile, menopause would not really cause any serious difficulties. These women may not even experience the symptoms generally associated with menopause.

However, some women find menopause to be a very distressing phase. The end of the fertile period itself can be very difficult for many women to cope with emotionally and psychologically.

This negative attitude combined with the reduced level of estrogen in the body can have an adverse effect on your sex life. The negative feeling of not looking good and a negative frame of mind would only add to your difficulties to experience an orgasm. Unhappiness can set in and this could be a big blow to your entire life and also the sexual experience.

Depression is another symptom that some women face while going through menopause. This may also result in a lowered libido. Many women take medication for treating the condition of depression. These anti-depressants can actually lower the sensation in the genitals leading to difficulties in experiencing a satisfying sexual experience. The low levels of estrogen can result in the thinning and dryness of the vagina, making intercourse very painful.

This could in turn reduce your interest levels or your sex drive. It is also seen that the physical discomfort caused due to hot flashes combined with anxiety and medication can make a woman very edgy and unable to relax. Such circumstances of physical and emotional distress can actually decrease a woman’s sex drive.

Women are still a little hesitant about talking about their inner feelings and the symptoms that they experience. Talking about it to your qualified medical practitioner would help in finding a suitable solution to your problems. The symptoms differ from one woman to the other however, communication is very important to find a solution that would help you cope with these menopausal symptoms. Your doctor will not only be able to understand the exact nature of your problems or symptoms but will also be able to find a way out for you.

Talking to your partner about your fears and feelings is also important. A sudden change in your behavior attitude and the disinterest displayed by you may actually leave your partner totally confused. He may also feel unwanted or neglected. It is thus, very important to make him understand your actual feelings and communicate to him the difficulties that you are facing.

Communication would help in sorting out your problems in a positive manner and finding a way to make a comeback to your earlier livelier days. This feeling of a low sex drive cannot be generalized as not all women in the menopausal phase experience these symptoms.

A nutritious diet combined with a good exercise routine and a positive attitude would help you overcome most of your menopausal symptoms thus, triumphing over menopause and leading a normal
