Mood Changes in MenopauseMenopause is that period of a woman’s life where her monthly menstruation stops. It happens to all women somewhere between their mid 40s to mid 50s. Menopause brings along with it a whole lot of other changes in the woman’s health both physically and emotionally. Many women experience various symptoms in menopause. The symptoms such as hot flashes, mood swings, night sweats, vaginal dryness and weak bones affect a lot of women. But all women necessarily do not go through these issues. Some do not even experience any kind of uneasiness. However, apart from those lucky few a lot of women go through all these problems. In menopause the hormone levels fall causing all these difficulties. This is not something which one should get worried about as it is possible to treat it. A healthy lifestyle which means a well balanced diet along with the required exercise treats the symptoms to quite a large extent. However, some women even go through Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) after seeking the doctor’s advice. The shift in the hormone levels is the root cause of all these problems. Mood changes are one such major issue which is a cause of concern if not treated properly and that too at an early stage. When a woman reaches menopause it is very essential that she gets a lot of support from her family and friends. She can experience drastic mood swings at times and if her family doesn’t understand that it is an involuntary action and does not reciprocate accordingly it will only have a negative impact. An understanding family can be a big support during this phase of her life when she is going through a lot of turmoil as it is. If the family does not lend the necessary support that she requires at this point then the intensity of the mood swings can increase and can lead to depression. This can further lead to other mental disorders. It is very important therefore, for the family and friends to be a support unit and recognize the symptoms and provide the necessary aid. All the symptoms of menopause including mood changes can be treated. The first and foremost thing that is to be done is that before reaching menopause itself women should lead a healthy lifestyle by consuming a well balanced diet. Dairy products, fish, green leafy vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and such other foods should be a part of one’s regular meal. Consuming a healthy diet means that the body is very well nourished because when one starts experiencing menopause with the reduction in certain hormones in the body, it will only add to the problems. Leading a healthy life solves the menopausal problems to a large extent. A balanced diet along with regular exercise gets rid of most of the issues related to menopause. Exercise makes the bones stronger and while exercising the body releases endorphins which helps in elevating the mood of the person. Menopause is nothing to fear about but the family plays a very vital role when a woman goes through these natural changes in her body and together they would be able to handle it easily.
